WORKSHOP ON “VITILIGO AND SKIN PIGMENTATION DISODERS” – responding to World Vitiligo Day, June 25th 2019

This year, World Vitiligo Day was held in Hanoi, Vietnam. With the topic “The Quality of Life of Vitiligo Patients”, National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology collaborated with G.Marconi University (Italy) and the Vitiligo Research Foudation to organize the workshop on “Vitiligo and skin pigmentation disorders” on June 24th 2019.

Distinguished guests participating in the event included: Professor.  Lotti Torello, Head of Dermatology of World Health Academy Dermatology, G. Marconi University, Italy; Prof. Michaels Tirants and Prof. Davinder Parsad, G. Marconi University, Italy; Prof. Tran Hau Khang, President of Vietnam Association of Dermatology and Venereology and Vice President of Asian Association of Dermatology and Venereology; Prof. Nguyen Van Thuong, Director of Viet Nam National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology (NHDV); Prof. Le Huu Doanh and Prof. Nguyen Huu Sau – Vice Director of NHDV; Dr. Nguyen Trong Hao, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology; Dr. Vu Tuan Anh, Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital and all the presenters and participants, vitiligo patients.

The official event of World Vitiligo Day took place on Tuesday, June 25th 2019 at Hanoi Medical University with the topic “The Quality of Life of Vitiligo patients”. The aim of this event was to promote widespread understanding of this disorder for community in order to help vitiligo patients avoid discrimination and become more optimistic in life.

In the opening speech, Prof. Nguyen Van Thuong emphasized that vitiligo is a common, cutaneous, depigmented disorder with unclear causes. This condition is non – confectious but it has a significant impact on the emotional and psychological wellbeing of patients. Until now there has not been a thorough treatment method for vitiligo. Prof. Thuong also said that the workshop with the presence of many leading professors from Vietnam and around the world, combined with responses of dermatologists from various cultures was a golden chance for doctors to absorb new updated knowledge about vitiligo and for patients to share their life and aspirations to the society.

After the opening speech, many presentations were performed by international and national proffesors.

– “The situation of vitiligo comes to National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology” – by Prof. Le Huu Doanh, NHDV.

– “Life quality of vitiligo patients” – by Prof. Nawaf B.S.N. Al-Mutairi, University of Kuwait.

– “Virus, Superantigens and Vitiligo” – by Prof. Michaels Tirants, G. Marconi University.

– “Melasma according to view of photoaging” – by Prof. Nguyen Trong Hao, Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology.

– “A journey: tissue grafts to cellular grafts” – by Prof. Davinder Parsad, G.Marconi University.

In the afternoon of the same day, the workshop continued with the live demo “Cellular grafts for vitiligo treatment” performed by Prof. Davinder Parsad, G.Marconi University.
