COMMUNITY CONFERENCE ABOUT THE LEPROSY IN 2009

On november 29th 2019, National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology in collaboration with the Son La Department of Health and the Son La Province Hospital of Leprosy-Dermatology organized “Community conference about the leprosy”

Attending the progarm include:

– Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Van Thuong – Director of the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology

– Prof.Dr. Tran Hau Khang – President of Vietnam Association of Dermatology

– Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Huu Doanh – Deputy Director of the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology

– MSc Dinh Huu Nghi – Director of the Center for Training and Instruction at the the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology

– MD.Nguyen Viet Duong – Director of Quynh Lap National Leprosy-Dermatology Hospital

– MD.Nguyen Thanh Hung – Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermatology

– Together with the doctors, officials from many units across the country.

Opening remarks at the conference, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Van Thuong – Director of the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology congratulated the authorities and the medical field from many regions in the country doing a good job of propaganda, helping people to be aware of leprosy and achieved good results about the leprosy prevention program by establishing a widespread leprosy prevention network. He also affirmed that the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology always provide knowledge and technical support for local in the leprosy prevention program, the media to eliminate segregation and no longer discriminates.

Prof.Dr. Tran Hau Khang – President of Vietnam Association of Dermatology presented a Global Leprosy Strategy in the 2019-2020 period with a slogan “ Accelerating toward a leprosy-free world”.  The strategy with main contents: strengthening the direction of the government, coordination, eliminating diseases, complication, stigma and support social inclusion .

The conference continued with the reports of delegates from the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology, Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermatology , Quy Hoa National Leprosy – Dermatology Hospital  and Quynh Lap National Leprosy – Dermatology Hospital.

In the report on leprosy prevention activities in the 2016 – 2018 period, there were many positive aspects in the prevention of disability and functional rehabilitation, such as early diagnosis and timely treatment; counsel to self-care. The prevention of leprosy after elimination in the southern provinces has made great progress but there are still some problems such as lack of equipment; unstable resources management: a lot of changes in personnel. In addition, the propaganda and education have been carried out regularly in many forms such as on television, radio, panels, leaflets, etc. Some difficulties in this period such as do not unify of organizational network; new patients have appeared at the many provinces where are recognized to eliminate leprosy; the prejudice about leprosy still exists.

At the end of the conference, the delegates exchanged the media clips about leprosy prevention activities, talked with the leprosy patients and discussion group among provinces.
